Q: HP compaq 6820 - why is my screen going blank?
Hi, I have an HP Compaq 6820 laptop and I've been having a lot of problems with the display. . . When I "wake up" the computer after it is in sleep mode, or if I need to restart it, the screen goes wonky, showing black, white or gray bars. This also happens if I have to turn the computer upside down, or if it goes to screensaver for more than a few seconds. It's never exactly the same bars/colors, but no matter what colors it shows, the computer doesn't seem to respond to anything I do. In order to get it back to normal, I have to unplug it and pop out the battery, and then wait for at least a few hours before I can turn it back on and have the display work. I sent my computer to HP and they gave me a new harddrive, but this only seemed to fix the problem for a month before it started going crazy again. No one at HP was able to tell me what exactly was wrong. Has anyone else had this problem before? And if so, what is it/how can I fix it? Thanks!
A: It does sound like a unique problem. Which is never good. Try fiddling around with the screen resolution/refresh rate/colours and see if it's a graphics issue. It might also be a bad hardware connection; it sounds like if you leave it to 'sleep' (cool off?) it could be disturbed when you turn it back on (heat up) This is just a random thought train-it could just be a faulty laptop. If its still under warranty, perhaps get a replacement. Hope this helps, P. Q: HP compaq 6820 - why is my screen going blank?
