What kind of dog is on due date?

Q: Is this a normal trait in a Mini Schnauzer?
While whelping she will lick at the pups but she chews the cord way too short and doesn't seem to care that the bag is still on the pups. I've had to interfere many times during whelping this will be her third litter. She throws absolutely beautiful pups which is why I bred her again. Other then that, She is the most clean female I have ever had, also one of the best mother dogs. She cleaned the 6 pups, and nursed them, even when they were 8 weeks old. Is this normal for a mini schnauzer to be this inattentive during whelping ? Both previous litters were like this. Also she displayed NO signs that she was going into labor at all both times. I regularly monitored her temperature during the first and second litter. She had no signs at all during them both. The last litter she had, she had just eaten, then went to pee then, came back inside and went to sleep on the couch. Within 15 Min's of her eating she had a puppy on the couch. No sounds from her no straining, no panting, no drop in temperature, no vomiting, no pacing, no hiding, nothing! I'm a new breeder, I've only been doing it for 4 years and none of my other females have ever displayed the kind of inadequacy she does during whelping. I also only have 1 litter per year and 2 females at a time. So I am what you would call a hobby breeder. In my limited experience I have not encountered this with this breed of dog. Or any breed for that matter. I have friends who are breeders but they don't breed schnauzers they deal in other larger breed dogs. When I ask the vet she doesn't know if it is a trait with this breed. I also cant find the answer in any books I have. So I am going to try my luck here. Any feedback would be appreciated, or if you have had this issue with a dog of yours, any ideas on what might be the cause, or something that helped you tell when your dog was going to whelp would be appreciated as well. I just hate having to stay up most the night around my dogs due date in case she whelps during the night and I'm not there to help. Thanks in advance
A: While I don't have schnauzers I find that It really depends on the bitch some are better mothers than others. I have yorkies and just whelped a litter Sunday. The thing is I assist in every whelp I open sacs, clamp cords tie them with a non waxed dental floss string and then cut them. Its just to prevent a short cord that can bleed excessively. She actually had a baby while I stepped out to potty and chewed the cord too short and it bled a lot so I had to use quickstop to stop the bleeding. I think all my females tend to chew them to short so I assist every time. She also didn't show much signs of nearing whelp either about 10 min before she had her 1st one I could hear her tearing her paper. I prepare the whelping box 10days before the due date and they spend most their time in there during the last week. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me

Q: Is there something wrong with my dog?
I have a longhaired male Chihuahua, he seems pretty healthy to me. He eats about a handful and a half of food a day. (a little at a time). He also drinks about a cup of water a day and more if hes been running around. I have been reading up on the parvo virus, and i saw that it says they will lose their appetite and will not drink water because it hurts them so much. He still eats and drinks regularly. Not saying that this is what I think it is, im just trying to keep my options open on finding out what is wrong with him. He has had all of his shots up to date. He is due for one more shot this week. Not really sure what it is, the vet knows. he has been wormed 4 times, all came clear. he is 3 1/2 months today. So he is still very small. Ive seen where also it says that a dog with parvo will have runny stool and it will have blood in it and be green or yellow or even dark brown. Also it would have a fowl smell. Ive heard parvo in stool smells like rotting chicken. but im not sure. My dog gags sometimes, ive heard they do that because they groom themselvs like cats (chihuahuas). plus he has long hair. my problem is, he hasnt actually thrown up, he spit up one time on me kind of like a baby, but it was clear. and i think he just kinda burped up water. But his stool here lately has been smelling like chlorine, or bleach water...Does this mean something is wrong? He doesnt eat table food, he only eats dog food and only drinks water. He runs around as if he is healthy. But why does his stool smell like this? its not runny or anything, its kind of hard, and a dark brown color. it kind of matches the color of his dog food. I just dont understand why it smells like this. Its a strong smell. it just recently started smelling this way a few days ago. He has found a spot under my bed to poop, and he used to not try and hide it. please help me! Yes he gets treats for using the pee pad, ive never thought of it being that though. I got them at petsmart and they smell wierd too. They are supposed to be chicken flavor. He likes them a lot, so much that sometimes when he gets one he burries it in his playpin. thanks guys!
